Part 1: Income
Income in the game comes primarily in the form of CHOAM Contracts. A CHOAM Contract allows the manufacture and sale of a good this provides four forms of income: Common Contract Income, Sales Income, Academy Income, and Grant of Holdings. All CHOAM Contracts must be cleared with the CHOAM Board of Directors and the Administration before becoming active. Each House has a base limit contracts which can only be eased by special edict of CHOAM and is based on the number of fiefdoms they hold. Each fiefdom allows for 3 CHOAM contracts. Sales, Academy, and Common Contracts are all granted at the discretion of CHOAM and its Board of Directors. Grants of Holdings may be awarded by the Imperial House at their discretion. Businesses of the Empire are allowed unlimited contracts due to their unique nature. The contract to mine spice on Arrakis is not subject to this limit. Sales contracts pay half the amount of a common contract but allows the player to collect individual sales of their good whatever it may be, which common contracts do not. Academy Contracts allow the sales of a special piece of personnel as well as an item unique to that personnel. CHOAM Contracts do not have to be sales goods (in which case they only provide common contract income). Common contracts allow for organized trade not possible with most sales goods. Academy contracts offer access to the sales of personnel and a good to enhance that personnel. Any contract that does have a sales component however must establish a price and have that price plus any modifiers the good may provide be cleared by the Administration and the CHOAM Board of Directors before sales can begin.
